Stainless steel gaskets are typically used in high pressure, high temperature, corrosive applications. These are applications that merit high initial investment and low ongoing maintenance. The hardness of the flange material should be higher than the hardness of the stainless steel gasket. Like all metallic gaskets, stainless steel gaskets require higher seating force and must be manufactured to very high quality standards.
